When was the last time you did something just for you? That’s the one question I ask when people join the HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO Facebook group. This is not for me; it’s for them. We should all ask ourselves this important question periodically to check in and make sure we are on the to do list too! What made me so happy this week? See below! Moreover, what made YOU so happy this week? If it takes too long to find something, it’s time for some serious spoiling!
My most favorite purple shampoo. If you are blonde, you have probably heard about the wonders of purple shampoo. First and foremost, this stuff seriously regulates the yellow brassy color. It lightens it up to a cool tone of blonde. For those with naturally dark hair that add blonde in, this stuff is a must have. I have also found the purple shampoos I have tried particularly cleansing. My hair always feels light afterwards, free of griminess. But, which one?? Well I have spent the last few months trying different ones out. I love the Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo and it smells super good. It also tones and regulates my blonde. My hair feels really good after I use Schwarzkopf Toning Shampoo for Cool Blondes as well. I highly recommend them both. My current favorite is Matrix So Silver. It seems to be the richest with the most color effects, smells fab and leaves my hair feeling soft and smooth. While I am a creature of habit, I know my hair appreciates a good shampoo variety so I use all three. Some worry about too much purple shampoo causing grey tones. It just so happens grey is in, so maybe it’s not such a big deal after all! For me, I use it 2-3 times per week. It evens out my blonde to blend with my natural ashy color. Aside from that, I use good old Dove shampoo. It’s like six bucks at Costco and lasts like seventeen years. The best “affordable” shampoo around by far! It works for us blondes who aren’t using color (just bleach). There are probably many other great purple shampoos that I am yet to try. Explore, Blondie’s!
My girls and I love hummus. We eat it all the time with veggies, crackers, or pita bread. Usually, we buy organic. It’s around four bucksish for a relatively small container. No doubt, it’s healthy but it’s not exactly fresh. We like fresh. Ok so healthy + fresh + affordable + fast. That’s what I am after. The only way to get this is to make it. You can get canned organic chickpeas for just over a dollar at Trader Joes. If you combine them with a few other ingredients in a food processor or magic bullet, you get spectacular fresh, clean hummus. It is totally a favorite for the week. I haven’t made it in a while and was reminded just how much I love it. I added limejuice, olive oil, a clove of chopped raw garlic, s+p, and after blending I topped with more olive oil and pine nuts. You can add in whatever you like and blend until you get a good flavor. You have to try this if you are a hummus fan.
Earrings I love. I am all about affordability, but also quality. It’s a balance. If you have to buy ten affordable things in the time it takes to get one quality version, it becomes silly. When it comes to earrings, I have tried purchasing different pairs on Etsy to support small businesses and in all cases (so far) I have had issues. The prongs come loose or something bends. As a Kate Spade lover, I bought a pair of earrings a few years back simply because they were cute. KS stuff is usually quality but you just never know. I have NOT been disappointed. Since then, I have bought several pairs. It’s like my little goodie when I want a treat but can’t go too overboard. Plus, what a statement! My favorites are the gumdrop earrings. I get compliments all the time so I thought they were definitely worth mentioning! My newest are purple that I got on sale-love it! Cutest ramekins ever! Because I love the kitchen and all things French, I fell in love with these little Emile Henry Ramekins… they are quality, adorable, and can withstand ridiculous temperatures making them perfect for baking cute tiny dishes like soufflés or mini macaroni and cheese sides. You could even make the teeniest cherry pies ever. The ones I got are charcoal colored. I love that darn color. Speaking of charcoal, have you tried a good charcoal face mask? If you haven’t, you must. I also love charcoal toothpaste for whitening. I will have both for sale soon. The toothpaste is already available here! I have had several friends and customers say that they saw a difference in their smile after just one brush! Stay tuned for details on my clarifying charcoal mask.
