jessie’s weekly favorites + a fab giveaway!

This week has been interesting. Work was intense but in an exciting, challenging sort of way. I have also had a lot of fun making overnight oats for my new customers, who have quickly become repeats. My brain has been exploding with new topics, some of which I have been able to write about, including a sex post giving birth and daddy issues. What fun! Along the way, I have definitely found some new favorite things and new favorite people! I have had the pleasure of having fabulous conversations with three powerful women who are all about health, wellness and feeling fantastic. More to come on these gals! Be sure to follow along and subscribe for emails so that you don’t miss a thing! FullSizeRender-38

Israeli cous cous. Cous cous? Yes I said cous cous. While I try to avoid too many carbs, I do enjoy a little extra something in my salad here and there. My go to when I am feeling this way is usually quinoa. I am a quinoa lover. I cook it up, let it cool and then flavor it with everything and anything. Most of the time it starts with lime. A while back I had tried some Israeli cous cous salad from Wild Thyme Catering. Holy smokes, was it good. It had goat cheese and all kinds of spices. Recently I found the cous cous at Trader Joe’s. It was super easy to make. I let it cool, added in lime juice, raw minced garlic, s+p, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, chickpeas for protein, a splash of red wine vinegar and a little cilantro. It was so good the first night but even better after it had chilled over night giving it more time for the flavors to set in. You can eat this all by itself OR line your to go lunch container with it and then pile more fun veggies on top. Multi-layered salad. More opportunity for flavor and SOOOO healthy!

My mouth’s bff. Recently, I went to the dentist and they said I needed a deep cleaning. They also said my husband needed one too. We were going to have to pay out-of-pocket $3000. Hmm with insurance? Not to mention I have done it before and didn’t see much of a result. It gets you wondering whether it’s legit. Regardless, because I’m not a dentist and can’t pass judgment, I didn’t want to spend that kind of money to get an extra special cleaning. I got to researching and of course found many holistic ways to clean out the mouth. One of which is oil pulling. Also, some say it’s safe to swish with a little hydrogen peroxide. Of course, flossing is the biggie. The reason deeper cleanings are necessary is because stuff gets down below the floss line and it begins to raise havoc. Someone suggested a waterpik. I tried it one night after flossing with my normal stringy stuff that tastes like mint (that I thought was enough). I was surprised at how much stuff was hiding in there that swiftly came out. I have used it now for a couple of months. I wanted to ensure I used it long enough to give a proper review. WOW. WOW. WOW. My husband and I have both used it every night and feel as clean as ever. It not only removes the leftovers from your mouth, but also stimulates the gums – waking them up so to speak. Also, if you have bad breath, a lot of that comes from gunk being caught in your teeth. Waterpik is for you. So, it’s not to say that a deep cleaning won’t be around the bend for me but honestly, my mouth feels healthier than ever and I would like to say I have found a better solution! When something feels strange, it probably is. Research. It could save you a headache and $2940! Yep. Feels good. Oh yea, if you want an inexpensive teeth whitening solution, I have the solution for you! Check out my super duper activated charcoal toothpaste here.

FullSizeRender-37.jpgFacial Serum. As you know, I have been trying out lots of facial products, from homemade to store bought. From cleansers to moisturizers to makeup. Now I am no beauty expert and prefer the “less is more” look but I can appreciate a good cosmetic product here and there! I can’t say enough about Trader Joe’s Nourish Antioxidant Serum. As soon as I get out of the shower I immediately put it on my face. It feels especially nourishing and silky right around my eyes. I follow up with Trader Joe’s Oil Free Moisturizer. Seriously delightful. I do this twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. My skin feels so soft and balanced! Because you shouldn’t take my word for it and try it yourself, I will be sending one reader their very own bottle! Wait, there is more! I will also include a bottle of my charcoal mud mask with a brush AND a fitness root hiding bow headband. You can use the headband to pull your hair back while you use the mask. Genius. All you have to do is follow the blog (if you haven’t already) and share this post on your page! As always, thank you for your support, friends and family. Everyone should be able to have his or her cake and eat it too!

Adorable photo enhancing app. Whether you like to have fun with personal photos or you are running a business, there are a lot of fun apps that you can use to improve, add captions to, or even animate your photos. One of my favorite new apps is Ripl. Ripl allows you to make fun additions and enhancements to your photos and easily allows for sharing with social media. I love adding a pop of color here and there to just about everything. Ripl definitely delivers. Super fun; try it out!

Figs. Can’t get enough of them. Get them while you can at Trader Joes. Fresh figs are phenomenal and so diverse. They are the perfect amount of sweet with such a unique texture. Yum. Top photo: oats with cacao nibs, pine nuts, cinnamon, honey, almond butter and a sliced fig.

Fall is here, pumpkins are everywhere and I am so happy. What makes you tick?
